My family has kept cider vinegar in the house for a long time. It started with my great-grandparents and their apple orchard. They made all kinds of things from the apples, including cider and vinegar with the left over peels. Spring cleaning was another time there would be the stuff in the house. This was grandma's doing though. She would come over for a few days to help get everything in the house shiney and fresh. She would start with the bathrooms. Everything got sprayed and wiped with the stuff. It would get rid of any bad odor and make the faucets and shower walls gleam.
When I went into the army, using the stuff came in very handy for barrack inspections. Other platoons would end up having to spend a free day or two going back over things the Sergeant felt were not clean enough. After the first week of having to redo everything on a Saturday I brought out the cider vinegar and we got to work. Our rooms never looked and smelled better. We did not have to stay in on Saturdays after that.
Now that I am married with kids of my own, I keep a nice supply of the stuff on hand at all times. I keep some premixed with honey for a cough syrup and some premixed with water in spray bottles for quick clean ups. In tha pantry is a gallon of it just waiting to be used.
