Until now, the medical community regularly viewed fibromyalgia as one single condition with a particularly extensive list of symptoms. Far more, many doctors speculated that fibromyalgia was due to illnesses, hormonally-based changes, and inherited disposition but they are now seeing this isn't right.
NEW studies have really shown that both of these major 'beliefs ' the medical profession had about fibro are essentially utterly and totally wrong!
For the 1st time ever, science is finally beginning to completely understand where the agony is coming from.
We were taking a look at fibromyalgia all wrong before - it is not one single problem or one single condition but instead it's a collection of issues.
Even more, some of the 'issues ' associated with fibro can be absolutely unrelated and have virtually nothing to do with each other. In actual fact you most likely know a person that has one or two of these issues but they do not suffer the way that you do. The rationale is usually because it's only when you have all these issues at once that your body really changes.
These problems all come together in sort of a 'perfect storm' and that's how fibromyalgia starts.
Each deficiency associated with fibro occurs in any one of two areas: your nervous system or your musculoskeletal system - NOT in your nervous system.
The nervous system doesn't cause any discomfort at all... That part the pain but does not start the discomfort.
Your nervous system is the data highway in your body, and it controls the flow of information - like sight, touch, sound, and agony signaling.
Now with fibromyalgia your nerve system changes.
Here are the 2 things that science now shows us are going on with it:
1 - nerve system signaling is significantly amplified
This explains why folk with fibro feel pain completely differently from folk without fibro.
2 - because nerve system signaling is amplified it uses much more of your body's energy and nutrition to function
This is the reason why folks with fibro have such bad fatigue. Their nerve system is sucking up all of their energy.
For example: If a fibro-free person and a person with fibro both get hit with a basketball at relatively the same force, does it hurt? Sure! The person without fibro feels discomfort and it stings for a few minutes; but the person who has fibro feels discomfort with much larger intensity and the pain persists of a longer duration.
This is because all of the additional signaling and work the central nerve network is going thru the person with fibro thanks to the fatigue.
Now here's the important part: Those 2 nervous system issues didn't initiate the pain... The basketball did. The second element in the musculoskeletal system or what we call 'fibromyalgia tender points ' that really cause or initiate the discomfort signaling to begin with.
These are imbalances with the muscles caused by shortening or weakening of the muscle which causes increased muscle tensions. This slowly leads to muscle adhesion, swelling, calcification and arthritis - all of which trigger pain.
Then, one the pain signaling fires, it is transferred around the body by the nerve system - which is already not working properly. Therefore , the signals aren't controlled and filtered... This explains why the discomfort you experience is dramatically increased.
