Some Alternatives For Healing Courses

By Mary Roberts

In recent years, healing courses utilizing a variety of techniques have become increasingly popular. Along with this increase in popularity has come an explosion in the types and number of courses that are offered. A comprehensive review of what's available could fill volumes, but here you can find the basics of some of the more widely available and intriguing ones.

One of the best-known of the courses currently on offer is the Japanese-born practice of Reiki. This is a hands-on healing technique that involves the transfer of ki, the Japanese term that translates to "life force energy." The practitioner simply lays their hands on the client, allowing the energy to be passed to the recipient where it does its work.

A somewhat similar technique is known as pranic healing. Prana is the Indian equivalent of the Japanese term ki. In this type of therapy, the practitioner manipulates the energy field of the person who is receiving the treatment in order to improve the flow of this energy and facilitate the healing process. Like Reiki, this does not involve physical manipulation of the body's tissues; it works on the energetic level.

An increasingly popular alternative that does involve applying pressure to the body is reflexology. It is based on the premise that stimulating certain "reflex zones" in the hands and feet will encourage healing in a corresponding part of the body. The pressure is given with one's hand or a small instrument.

Another option to consider is yoga. While this may not be what first comes to mind when thinking of learning about healing, practicing yoga is considered to be a powerful tool for improving one's overall health and well-being. One could easily be overwhelmed by all the choices that are available and it's a good idea to choose carefully by considering your personal needs.

If the physical nature of yoga isn't your cup of tea, you could elect to study meditation instead. Although some people consider the prospect of sitting still for long periods of time to be very challenging, many find it to be well worth the effort. As with yoga, there is a wide variety of courses and methods from which to choose.

Staying with the mental side of things, hypnotherapy courses are becoming easier and easier to find. Once greatly misunderstood, hypnotherapy is now much more accepted by the mainstream and doesn't require any prior training. It also doesn't take years of study; completing a course can be done in just a few short months.

The most difficult part of this is deciding from among the seemingly infinite choices of healing courses. Because of the unlimited alternatives, you're almost guaranteed to find something that fits what you're looking for. No matter which you decide to pursue, you may just discover things that you never before thought possible.
