The Truth About Migraines

By Gil Gebauer

There are countless data available about common migraine and sometimes they're enough to give you a headache. With all these, you are not even sure what to believe anymore. Read on to have a better understanding about migraine and the myths that has surrounded migraine through time.

Oftentimes, people who are having a migraine attack are told that it's just the usual headache and they are probably minding it too much. While this can be true for those who are feigning illness, this might be false for some who are experiencing a true migraine attack.

Many people are unaware that migraine pain can also be felt in the neck and shoulders. Migraine pain is real physical pain and not just something a person thinks about.
A lot of studies have been made as to the real origin of migraines but there is no concrete answer even up to this day. Only migraine triggers have been identified which may include stress, extremes in temperature, and changes in diet like caffeine withdrawal for some. These have been found to precipitate migraine attacks.

Even a simple headache has many variants. This is the very reason why it can be hard for medical practitioners to determine if a person is suffering from migraine or a simple headache. Even the symptoms of migraine are not the same for everyone which adds to the difficulty in making the correct diagnosis.

Once you determine what triggers a migraine attack for you, it would help you manage and somehow minimize the frequency you can get a migraine attack. Despite advances in medicine, migraine cannot be completely healed. Outbreak of migraine symptoms may be intermittent and sometimes it may even take years between migraine attacks.

Migraine sufferers are predominantly women. But this does not mean that men will not get migraines. Studies show that female sex hormones may be the culprit behind this phenomenon. These also suggest that for every 3 women migraine sufferers, there is 1 male migraine sufferer.

Stress has been shown to trigger migraine attacks. Since adults are more likely to suffer from stress, migraine attacks are more common in this age group. But unknown to all, children may also suffer from migraines.
