The use of essential oils, which comes from the pure essence of a plant, is not new. Though the term aromatherapy was coined only in the 1920s, folks knew of aromatherapy essential oils from the stone age times. Starting from the Chinese to Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Persian and Indian civilizations, each have added to the science of essential oils and to aromatherapy as a whole.

Research still continues in the province of aromatherapy important oils, with new developments being made in the field. Aromatherapy and important oils are now not restricted to cosmetic or aromatic uses only. Plenty of the essential oils have been shown to have medical and healing benefits too.
Concentrated oils are derived from nearly every part of the plant. Leaves, stems, flowers, roots, etc are distilled through steam or water to result into fancy oils. Consequently, aromatherapy fancy oils contain the true basis of the plant. In its most pure form, a few drops of concentrated oil can give the same results that tons of that plant would have given. This is thanks to the fact that oils can be found in concentrated form. Though known as oil, essential oils in aromatherapy do not give that oily feeing. Excepting one or two oils like patchouli, orange and lemongrass, most oils are clear and see-through.

Aromatherapy essential oils can be used by people either through inhalation or by applying them on skin in a diluted form. When concentrated oils are inhaled, they enter the blood and lungs at once, thus making an instant effect on the illness. Applying aromatherapy fancy oils on the body is good for absorption. Since important oils are available in a concentrated form, they need to be diluted using carrier oil. I love to use fractionated coconut oil, while others like almond oil.
