3 Tips for Using Hydrotherapy to Heal

By Kyle Eli

Hydrotherapy is a sort of treatment that makes use of water for the healing of pain, illnesses and injuries. This can take a variety of forms, from doing therapeutic exercises in a swimming pool to soaking in a hot tub.

One of the more unique types of hydrotherapy is colon hydrotherapy--unlike the other forms, this method uses water internally.

Probably one of the most well known forms of hydrotherapy are the cold mitten friction rubs that you can receive. You take a cloth or mitten that has been dipped in cold water and put it on to increase circulation. This is something that you can do, or that someone else can help you with. If you get a regular massage, your masseuse could also do this for you. The towel or mitten is rubbed on your arms in a circular motion. It should be applied vigorously, as the objective is to stimulate circulation. You can also do this to your abdomen, feet, chest and legs. Many health professionals believe that this is also beneficial for your immune system, not just a way to energize yourself in the morning.

One of the most natural forms of hydrotherapy involves taking a bath in mineral springs. These are natural springs that exist all over the world. Natural springs are typically high in mineral content and have temperatures that are cold, hot and everything in between. Taking baths in mineral springs is something that many people believe to be quite helpful and it is a technique that holistic doctors tell people to do all of the time. There are entire spas that have been built over and around natural mineral springs. If you don't have a mineral spring handy, you can recreate the effect by putting mineral salts into your bath water. This can be extremely relaxing and refreshing, whether you have a particular ailment or not.

This article has talked about some of the best things that you can do to help yourself with hydrotherapy but they aren't the only options you have. When you study hydrotherapy's history, and all of the ways in which it is beneficial, its versatility might really surprise you. It isn't just useful for healing injuries and health problems, it's great for helping you to relax and relieve some stress.
