tips On Baby Eczema

By David Springall

Eczema is very common in infants and babies. Atopic eczema is most common in babies and appears between the ages of two months and 18 months. It usually starts with a intensely itchy rash on the face, and in the inner creases of the elbows, and behind the knees. The skin often scales in these parts, and small red pimples may appear. When the baby scratches, the pimples begin to ooze and join to form large weeping areas. Infections occur in the nappy area because of the high level of dampness.

- Treating Baby Eczema

It has been known that Eczema in babies can sometimes be caused by environmental factors, like low humidity. Use of uncomfortable clothing made from materials like scratchy wool can also irritate your baby. Hygine products which may have perfumes in and even some foods cause this skin condition. So, what can you do to help your baby avoid getting eczema?

- Here is some basic help tips

1/ It is important to keep the baby's skin moisturized properly.

Use tepid water when washing your baby, because it is the ideal temperature to help avoid dryness. After you have finished bathing apply fragrance-free moisturizers to help keep your baby's skin soft and supple.

2/ Do not "over clean" your baby.

Excessive bathing, or cleaning, can have as many damaging effects as not doing enough of it in the first place. Wash your baby's genitals, hands, and feet with water, then rinse the rest of the body.

3/ Ensure that your baby wears clothing made out of cotton.

Cotton is considered one of the most comfortable kinds of clothing available. Ensure that you choose loose clothes made of cotton for your baby instead of tight, itchy, and uncomfortable materials.

4/ Ensure that you feed your baby fresh and nutritious foods. One of the main factors of eczema is malnutrition. If a body is unhealthy the immune system will be unable to fight the eczema bacteria. Avoid giving your baby artificial, and junk, foods.

5/ Always try to keep your baby stress-free.

Babies get stressed when they are in uncomfortable situations, or anxious and irritated.

6/ Always make sure that any ointment, or solution you apply to your babies skin is prescribed by a medical specialist.

This condition often clears of its own accord as the child grows older, although it may come and go for several years. Most children outgrow atopic ezema by puberty
