Jiaogulan Tea: The New Wonder Drug

By Lupe Hardy

A person's life goal is often to live a life that is long enough to enjoy the various pleasures in life. The quest for the Fountain of Youth has never stopped despite the fact that the least convincing clue that it is real has never been found. But some claim that the ever-elusive fountain exists in the form of medical herbs natural healing practices.

Herbal medicines come in all forms and sizes. Respected herbalists claim that many healing chemicals and compounds are in various herbs and plant species. These elements and compounds are also called phytochemicals which boosts the body's defenses and functions.

Herbalists believe that phytochemicals make use of bodily chemical processes as would conventional medicines. This makes herbs as effective as conventional drugs but without the debilitating side effects that often occur in some medications. Many herbalists are lobbying for alternative medicine to be more integrated into mainstream and conventional healthcare.

Western countries particularly, do not have a healthcare culture that relies on alternative or natural ways of healing. The Chinese seem to know better. Through the centuries, ancient Chinese medicine men have been using plants, herbs and organic materials to cure, heal and maintain the health of their patients, and they seem to be working quiet well since in many parts of the country, locals have aged to more than 100 years.

A popular medicinal plant that thrives in south central China is the Jiaogulan, also known as the "southern ginseng". People are more familiar with ginseng but Jiaogulan is an herb that is extensively used in China. Although the two have no biological connections, both have substances that could aid in making one "immortal".

Miracle grass, fairy grass and gospel herb are only a few of the other names which Jiaogulan, saponins, has acquired. These various names hint the amazing effects of the herb on restoring over-all health. The scientific name is Gynostemma Pentaphyllum.

The most notable function of the herb is its ability to lower cholesterol level. This result to a number of health benefits such as reducing high blood pressure, boosting the immune system, increasing endurance, strengthening the heart, improving the ability to resist stress, aiding memory, and so on. The herb also prevents future hair loss and repairs receding hairlines.

The herb also has the capability to repair cell damage and protect the body from exposure to environmental toxins. When boiled to make tea, Jiaogulan is also used to treat coughing, bronchitis, ulcer, constipation, and insomnia. There are also claims that the herb can cure cancer, diabetes and helps in weight loss.

When using herbal cures for the first time, some people may experience a mild case of dizziness after the first dose. The herb could cause diarrhea and bouts of nausea after the initial doses so the herb may not seem so miraculous in the beginning. When the side effects become too bothersome the best action is always to consult a medical professional.

Jiaogulan is just one of the many medicinal herbs that grow in China and are making their way around the world. Thailand and other Asian countries have accepted this medical herb as a great alternative medication. Even the United States recognizes the power of this herb.
