Improving Cancer Detection Through Breast Thermology

By Sammy Cropper

Cancer is becoming a huge problem and affecting people across the globe. In America especially, cancer has become the number one killer in many citizens beating out heart diseases in recent years. Because of this, it is important to spread the knowledge of breast thermography to as many people as possible. The conventional way of early detection of cancer in the chest is the use of mammography. When people go to the doctor for this, they receive a mammogram. Although this is what physicians have been using for decades, the process can deliver more than 1000x the dose of radiation as a normal chest X-ray. The fact that the most common form of cancer in women is of the breast makes it important they learn about this technology.

Thermal detecting devices use a simple camera, allowing for greater portability over other medical hardware. The cost is also smaller because of the equipment used. These machines use a special camera that detects heat energy.

Cheap thermal imaging devices have been created by people in their homes. This is done by connecting open source hardware and software with a thermal camera. They are not professional, but can become a great low cost substitute to the professional versions.

It can take up to a couple days to create this device and only costs about 100 dollars. Although it is cheap, it still offers basic imaging functionality. These homemade versions allow people to perform self examinations at home as well as examine friends and family.

To reduce the risk of contracting cancer, people have been using thermography to detect tumors in the early stages of development. This process is non invasive and painless. There is also no radiation involved. The way it works is by doctors using special cameras to view heat on the body. The human body distributes heat symmetrically across the whole body. Knowing this(Using this knowledge), physicians have the ability to discern problem areas located around the body. Tumors or any other underlying abnormalities are easily detected in this way.

This process is particularly useful for women who get annual examinations. The reason being that exam results can be compared to the previous year and give more accurate results. Thermal imaging is especially appropriate for younger women between the ages of 30 and 50 going for examinations. The main reason for this is because younger women have denser tissue in the bosom that makes it more difficult for physicians to find and diagnose problems using conventional methods.

Breast thermography can also be more helpful than conventional methods because it allows doctors to detect a whole host of diseases and problems. These include any physical abnormalities under the skin that are not visible with the naked eye from the outside. Equipping doctors with this information will allow them to deliver a more accurate prognosis. Not only can they do that, but they will also be able to monitor any strange abnormalities they find before they have a chance to become diagnosed as a positive threat.
