Music Therapy and Fibromyalgia

By Dr. Steven Yen

The power of music can't be undervalued because as humans, we are hard wired to appreciate beauty. Many people may not think to turn to music when looking to chill their bodies and minds but they should particularly if they have fibromyalgia.

Physiologically, listening to lovely music can at once stimulate your cerebral cortex, relax your muscles and help promote properhormonal flow. Additionally, music can also help reduce anxiety and stresses by helping your body to produce endorphins. Thanks to modern MRI and brain scan systems, analysts have shown that while you are listening to music written by Mozart, your entire brain is lit up. This implies that the flow of blood to your brain is increased and your brain is then in a position to function at a higher level.

Psychcentral.com explains that in a new study, Varsity of Granada analysts showed that music treatment in partnership with steered images or other relaxation techniques significantly reduced pain, relieved depression and anxiety and improve sleep.

Study participators were evaluated at the start of the treatment, 4 weeks after the intervention, and eight weeks after the intervention, at the end of the study.

Patients were given a CD to listen at home. Then, analysts measured a number of variables associated with the key symptoms of fibromyalgia including pain magnitude, standard of life, impact of the condition on patient's everyday life, sleeping disorders, stress, depression, self-efficacy and contentment.

Now, not only does listening to music favorable from a physical point of view, it may also bring peace and peace to your spirit. Music can help heal your body in a way that's much deeper than pretty much any other modality. Think how great you feel when you turn on your favorite song. Most probably a huge grin comes on your face, you want to sing along, and you want to move a little bit to the music. That's good (and healthy) for both you and your body!

An alternative way music can help you reduce agony is through singing. When you sing, you permit your lungs to empty the "dead air" that's sitting at the bottom of them. You actively breathe out more carbon dioxide, and by doing this, not only will you increase the oxygen to your body but you also help buffer the ph level in your body. Singing will help you cut back the astringency in your body. Coupling that may taking an Epsom salt bath, will help significantly cut back the discomfort in you are experiencing in your body.
